Keeping My Home A Little Cleaner

Showroom New: How To Spring Clean The Outside Of Your Home To Look Brand New

If spring is coming up you may have got the cleaning bug. Spring cleaning the home after the winter holidays can make your home less cluttered, plus give you plenty of space to make way for the end of school and summer activities. Along with getting the interior of your home cleaned and prepared, you should also put some work into the outside. Here are four ways to prepare the outside of your home to look new and ready for summer.

Hire a brick mason to fix up your patio and porch

During the spring and summer, your front porch and back patio will see much more traffic. Have a masonry contractor come out and inspect your patio path and your front porch. If there are any bricks that need to be touched up or if the path is currently cracked, have the masonry contractor repave or replace the bricks in these areas. Also be sure to replace any cracking bricks on the exterior of your home, so that your house looks more stately and new on the outside.

Plant new flowers and shrubs

Nothing looks better on the front of your home than updated flowers and shrubs. Plant new flowers around the front of your home to liven up the front entrance. If you live in a climate that makes it hard to sustain flowers, plant green shrubs that can easily thrive in the environment. With the arrival of the spring season comes the best time to plant flowers so that the rainy weather can help water them and the greater amount of sunshine can keep them living.

Repaint the siding

If you have siding, window frames, and gutters that are painted, spring cleaning is the best time to touch them up. Prior to repainting the siding, go over the area and strip off anything that may be peeling or hanging so that the paint will go on smooth. Be sure to get paint in the precise color of your current siding unless you plan to prime then completely repaint the siding on your home. Touch up your gutters and windows so that they blend in perfectly with the rest of your home.

Clean out the shed and garage

When it comes to spring cleaning, it is important to remember the shed and the garage. Both likely hold tools, such as lawn equipment and sports gear that you may use more in the summertime. Check over the equipment and throw away anything that is rusted, broken, or in poor condition. Replace all equipment that you will need to have a successful spring and summer.

Is Your Carpet Getting Excessively Dirty? 3 Tips to Avoid Getting It So Dirty

Dirt is inevitably going to get in your home, especially when you have dogs, kids, and adults that often spend time around dirt, water, or grass. But this does not mean you should live with an extremely dirty home at all times. You should look at ways that you can keep the dirtiness to a minimum. This is not only crucial for your satisfaction as a homeowner but also for keeping your carpet-cleaning costs from skyrocketing.

Remove Socks, Not Just Shoes

When everyone gets home from school, work, or running errands, you might have a rule for everyone to remove their shoes immediately. This will prevent dirty shoes from getting on the carpet. But this may not actually fix the problem in its entirety, as socks can also hold quite a bit of dirt and grime. It is best to create a new rule that requires all family members to remove both their socks and shoes as they enter. Going the distance of getting inside slippers or putting extra socks at the front door is a worthwhile idea.

Get Excellent Air Filters

Although you could get low-cost fiberglass air filters to fill the role of an air filter in your home, you should not expect these to do much in regard to keeping the house clean. These filters only boast a minimum efficiency reporting value (MERV) of somewhere between 1 and 4, which is on the low side. Investing a little more money into something like an HEPA filter can get you in the range of 17 to 20. This will lead to a cleaner home and will prevent you from having to replace the filters so often. As a result, your carpet will take in less dust, which will ultimately lead a cleaner carpet and less of a need to hire a cleaning service.

Take the Cleaning Outside

When you clean things like drapery, curtains, and furniture, you should do all of the job outside. It is certainly easier to just wipe these items down or dust everything off and then vacuum the carpet afterward, but you will likely have some dust particles that end up getting stuck in the carpet fibers for a long time. Dusting and cleaning outside can reduce how much dust gets recirculated inside your home.

Carpets are meant to get dirty because they are the flooring on which you walk. But you can drastically reduce how much dirt they accumulate by putting these tips into action.

New Puppy Marking Its Territory? 3 Steps To Remove The Stains And Keep Your Carpets Fresh

If you recently bought a new puppy, your probably kids love it but you’re likely not too happy with all the messes that it’s leaving behind. But don’t get rid of the puppy. Instead, take advantage of these simple steps to help you clean up the mess and remove the odors.

Absorb the Moisture

When it comes to puppy urine, the first thing you want to do is absorb the moisture. As soon as you see your puppy piddle, you need to grab a handful of paper towels and place them directly over the puddle. Then cover the paper towels with a piece of plastic wrap. Now, set several heavy books on top of that. The plastic wrap will prevent the urine from soaking through to your books. Leave the paper towels in place for about 15 minutes. This will ensure that all of the urine is absorbed.

Clean the Area

Once the urine has been absorbed, remove the books and carefully discard the soiled paper towels. Then fill a spray bottle with fresh water. Add about 1 tablespoon of enzyme stain cleaner and 1 teaspoon of lemon juice. The enzyme cleaner will remove the stain, and the lemon juice will remove the odor.

Saturate the urine area with the cleaning solution. You’ll want to begin spraying water around the outside perimeter of the urine puddle. Spray the water inward towards the center of the puddle. Beginning in the center of the puddle will allow the residual urine to spread out away from the center. Beginning on the outer perimeter will help contain the urine. Once the puddle is saturated, allow the water to sit for about 10 minutes.

After the cleaner has sat for about 10 minutes, you’ll dry the area. Use the same procedure as you used to absorb the original urine puddle. Be sure to use clean paper towels to absorb the cleaning solution. Allow the area to dry. If you can still smell urine, repeat the process one more time.

Call the Professionals

When puppies urinate on the carpet, they can leave a strong ammonia odor in your home. Unfortunately, if the ammonia odor remains, your puppy will continue to return to that spot to urinate. If the cleaning solution didn’t take care of the problem, you’re going to need a professional carpet cleaning service, such as Easy Clean Carpet Care, to take care of the problem.

If your new puppy is leaving puddles all over your carpet, you need to get them cleaned up as soon as possible. The tips provided here will help you clean up the stains and eliminate the odors.

Small Business Owner? Two Tips To Help You Get Affordable Commercial Cleaning Services

As a small business owner, you likely understand the importance of keeping your facility neat and tidy.  It’s good for your employees because it gives them a sanitary environment to work in, and it also bodes well for customers, because few patrons will continue to frequent a business that is unclean.  However, if it’s becoming difficult for you to keep the place clean on your own, you may need outside help.  This means that your company will have the additional expense of paying a cleaner, and you may not be sure if it’s in the budget.  Use this information to learn how to get affordable commercial cleaning services so your business facility always looks good.

Ask For A Flat Rate

The first thing you’ll want to do when you’re getting estimates on commercial cleaning is ask if a flat rate is available.  This could be the key to helping you save big.

Some commercial cleaning companies will charge according to square footage.  If you have a relatively large facility, the cost could end up being quite expensive because they are looking at the size of the place, rather than the scope of what they’ll be doing.

However, if you’re able to let the commercial cleaning company know that you’ll do certain tasks yourself if they agree to a flat rate, you may be able to cut down the costs.  If this means regularly taking out your own trash; do it.  The cleaning company may be charged with things like vacuuming or changing coffee filters in the break room, but if you agree to pull your weight no matter how large your structure is, you may be able to cut a deal.

Ask For Automatic Payments

Another way that your business may be able to save on commercial cleaning expenses is by asking for automatic payments.  If the cleaning service owner knows that you’re willing to allow them to automatically withdraw the payments, your rate could go down.

Understand that the commercial cleaning service owner is in business just like yourself, and that they depend upon timely payments from clients in order to keep themselves afloat.  If you agree to automatic payments, it essentially lets them know that they can depend on your payment.  The reliability may cause them to give you a discount.

Commercial cleaning services can lend an incredible sense of calm when it comes to keeping your business facility clean.  Start using these tips right away so you can get this valuable service without breaking the bank. Contact a business, such as Spectrum Building Svcs., for more information.

Hire A Janitorial Service For These One-Off Cleaning Jobs

Even if you currently have a janitorial service regularly visiting your place of work, there are a number of different times that it can be advantageous to hire this service on a one-off basis. As a business manager, you want to ensure that your place of work stands out for its cleanliness, both for your employees and for those who visit. This can mean arranging for the cleaning crew to visit your location between its regularly scheduled cleanings to ensure that your facility is sparkling in time for a major event. For example, the janitorial service might visit each Saturday, but if you have an event on Wednesday, you can arrange for the crew to come in Tuesday evening so that things are pristine. Here are some times at which this one-off approach can be useful.

Job Fair

Depending on your line of work, you may open your doors once or twice a year for a job fair. In this event, you’ll welcome dozens of job seekers into your space, so it’s important that the office looks as clean as possible. This will give a positive impression to not only the candidates that you hire, but also those who aren’t hired but will leave with a positive impression of the workplace. Staffing company representatives might also attend, and you want to be sure that they view your business in a favorable light — and the cleanliness of the facility can make a big difference.

Industry Conference

In some industries, you’ll find businesses that invite other branches of the business or even other organizations into their space for meetings. If you find yourself in such a position, it’s beneficial to arrange for a one-off cleaning right before the event begins. It’s always beneficial for your workplace to be seen positively by those who visit, as you never know of the impression it may make on someone who eventually wishes to join your workforce.

Staff Party

Whether you’re celebrating the holidays or throwing a get-together to recognize a major accomplishment, it’s a good idea to hire a janitorial service right before the event. Having professional cleaners go through your place of work from top to bottom can transform it in time for the festivities. There will be no more half-full garbage bins, overflowing recycling containers and other such work-related messages that are common during the workweek. Additionally, if spouses of your employees will be attending the event, having the workplace sparkle can portray an even better image about your brand.

4 Tips To Make Cleaning Your Bathroom A Breeze

Cleaning your bathroom can easily be one of the most time and labor consuming parts of cleaning your home. Here are four tips that will turn cleaning your bathroom into a breeze.

#1 Combat Soap Scum With Dryer Sheets

One of the hardest things to get rid of in your bathroom is soap scum. Soap scum seems to stick to the tile and surfaces in your shower and seems to be resistant to most bathroom cleaners.

Instead of scrubbing away at the soap scum that is on your tile bathtub or shower, try out this trick. Spray the area where the soap scum has accumulated with a little water. Then, take a dry sheet and scrub the area with a circular motion. Next, take some water and rinse off the area. Most of the soap scum should be gone. Repeat until you have no more soap scum left. When the dryer sheet starts to break down, switch to a new one.

#2 Use Baking Soda To Clean Your Tile & Grout

The second hardest thing to get rid of in your bathroom is the mildew and mold that is constantly trying to take hold in your shower and bathtub. You can combat the mold and mildew and clean your shower or bathtub at the same time by sprinkling baking soda over the area, then scrub it with a wet scrub brush before rinsing the area. The baking soda will kill the mold and mildew and clean your tile at the same time.

You can also use this cleaning method on your bathroom counters and floor as well. Baking soda is a great natural cleaning product that is very versatile.

#3 Fight Hard Water Stains With White Vinegar

If your toilet bowl is full of hard water stains, just take about a cup of white vinegar and pour it into the toilet bowl before you go to bed and allow the vinegar to sit overnight. Then, in the morning before you use your toilet, give it a little scrub. The hard water stains should easily come off now.

#4 Use Lemon To Break Down Tub Gunk

Finally, if there is any remaining junk in your tub that you just can’t seem to get rid of, cut open a lemon and rub it on the surface where that gunk and grime is located, then wash the area with some warm water. This should remove the grime in no time. You can also try this trick on your sink.

Use one or all of these steps the next time you have to tackle cleaning your bathroom; you’ll be amazed at how quickly you can clean your bathroom when you know all the right tools and tricks. Contact a business, such as Superior Carpet & Upholstery Cleaning Inc, for more information.

2 Ways To Use A Toothbrush To Clean Your House

You might have not known that there are more uses for a toothbrush than simply brushing your teeth. A toothbrush is a great tool to clean your house with. Instead of throwing away your old toothbrushes, you should keep them and use them to clean those hard to reach areas. Here are two ways to use your toothbrush to keep your house looking clean.

Cleaning Keyboards

Over time, your toothbrush will become softer and softer as the bristles are used. Thus, instead of throwing away an old toothbrush where the bristles are too soft, you can use it as the perfect cleaning tool for your keyboard. Did you know that your keyboard contains as many, or more germs, than a toilet seat? Think about all the germs on your hands that are being transferred to your keyboard as you type and browse the Internet. This is why it is essential that you clean your keyboard as often as possible.

Because a toothbrush is soft and can reach small crevices, it is the ideal tool to clean your keyboard. Use some rubbing alcohol or a certified electronics detergent to clean the keyboard. Make sure that you turn the computer off before you start, and only clean the keyboard with the toothbrush. Apply a small amount of detergent to the brush and gently scrub away all the germs.

Cleaning Tile Grout

If you have tile in your house, you are probably familiar with the grout becoming discolored. Grout is the adhesive between each of the pieces of tile that hold the tile together and keep water out of the crevices. Because grout has groves, it is especially susceptible to dirt. In order to really clean the grout, you have to be able to scrub the small space with precision and detail. Using a toothbrush is the perfect way to clean the grout.

You can purchase specific grout cleaner to clean in between the tiles, or you can use vinegar and baking soda. In order to do this, sprinkle the baking soda around the grout and then spray vinegar on it. Let the solution bubble for just a short period of time, and then scrub the dirt away with the toothbrush. After you have loosened up all the dirt, take a wet towel and wipe the remains off.

After trying these simple yet effective tips for cleaning your house, you will be surprised at how well your keyboard and grout looks, with minimal materials and some old toothbrushes. For professional help with residential cleaning, contact a business like Kathy’s Quality Cleaning, Inc.
